3rd Grade-6th Grade
MEET YOUR TEACHER
Hello! My name is Ami Driver and I live in Newport with my college sweetheart, Cris. We have been married for 19 years and have two children: Madison, 16 and Bubba, who is 14. My hobbies include watching my children play sports and chasing them around everywhere that they need to go. I have decided that I should become a taxi driver. My daughter plays softball and is a Sr. High Cheerleader, and my son plays baseball and football.
I LOVE what I do! I hold a BSE in Early Childhood Education P-4, a Masters in Special Education; Gifted, Talented, and Creative, and a Masters in Educational Leadership. When I grow up, I hope to be an elementary principal. I teach pull-out Gifted and Talented classes for 3rd grade through 6th grade for the Newport School District and I serve as the Parent Facilitator for elementary school. This is my 10th year to work for this district. I started out in Pre-K as an instructional assistant and once I finished school, I taught 3rd grade before being asked to take over the GT program. I hold a CDL license and I drive a bus route, which is not as bad as you might think. That is SUPER FUN!!! I coach the elementary quiz bowl and chess teams in my spare time.
This summer, I gained a new-found LOVE for traveling. After signing up to take students on trips, I was asked to attend a training in PARIS!! I will be working with EF tours to take students on trips. The first trip that I will be leading will be during Spring Break 2016. We will traveling for 10 days to London, Paris, Florence and Rome. Seeing the world is of so much importance. To gain more information for that trip, see my website www.eftours.com/1716304MA.
I love being a teacher and really think that I can make a difference in the lives of my students. Many of these students just need a dependable adult in their life, and I would like to be that for them. Teaching is a calling and it is NOT for everyone.
